A crop consultant is not an expense but a cost saving tool used to increase quality and save money. Consultants work hand in hand with growers to identify problems and implement corrective action. Crop consultants spend time on farms watching procedures; testing soil, water and fertilizers; and monitoring crop production. The job of a consultant is to make sure your operation runs as close to perfect as it can. He is part of your management team. Owners and managers have daily responsibilities in keeping the farm running; add a consultant and he is going to watch the crops and know what the yield will be before harvest. His expertise is to make sure fertilizers are formulated to maximize growth and not over apply more than your soil can hold. He is going to manage your soils for peak production while balancing the soil food web so biological soil life flourishes. His job is to work with nature by using science to make sure both prosper.
It is not being used as much today as it used to but, fertilizer companies would test soils and tell the grower it was free. Growers understand no one gives anything away. With fertilizer companies, it just took longer to find out what it cost. With a professional crop consultant, you know what you are paying for ahead of time. Every soil, water, tissue test has a value and your consultant charges you for work he does. You do not grow a crop and give it away nor do soil laboratories give away testing.
The accuracy of a soil test depends on how the sample is pulled: if the samples do not reflecting the growing area, contaminated with sweat or fertilizer, handled incorrectly or delivered to the laboratory late, your test results will not be correct. Any one of these can result in your soil testing results being wrong and you have wasted time and money. To be able to depend on the soil testing, you have to make sure the samples are pulled correctly and delivered to the laboratory correctly. A professional soil-sampling team will always pull your samples so you know it will be correct. It is almost like a Crime Investigators taking samples of a crime scene, the samples they pull and analyzed better be correct or someone could go to jail or be executed. Soil testing should be handled with the same care, It is your livelihood and you should demand it be done correctly by a professional.

Paul worked (appointed by Governor) with state employees to monitor the test DuPont Chemical Company performed where they claimed Benlate did not cause damage. On visiting the DuPont site it was Paul that showed DuPont the Benlate damage on their test beds. Paul was able to duplicate the damage in his own test sites after one application of the Fungicide. This was the only testing where Damage was found and documented proving 100% that Benlate was the cause of wide spread damage. Growers were able to use the test information along with pictures of damaged plants to help motivate DuPont to settle lawsuits. A lot of work went into fighting the Chemical giant and Paul’s work was just part of the information collected. DuPont paid growers Billions of dollars as settlement for crop damages.
